In the hope that Google Maps is more reliable than Google Translate, it will take a reasonably healthy translator about 4 minutes to walk from the Conference Site (Marriott) to the restaurant. Depending on the food/drinks consumed, the return trip may take considerably longer.

There is also plenty of information there on how to prepare, how the grading works, eligibility requirements etc.

The best tip I can give is to take a practice exam, since you receive your graded passage/text back with comments. When you take the actual exam, you do not receive your graded exam back, only the results.  The practice test is sent to you and you return it to a grader who then will send you back the results.  Why should you get certified?

Certification is by no means required to succeed as a translator. However, certified translators usually earn more and have increased credibility of being a professional translator.

A brief note to thank you for the honor of nominating and electing me Administrator of the Nordic Division. And thank you to Thor Truelson and Tiina Fallini for their excellent work over the past years.

I’m truly regret not being able to attend the convention in Denver. Alas, the life of of a translator is unpreditable.

I hope to be able to perhaps create greater network opportunities for our members both on the Internet and by making the various local chambers of commerce aware of our existence and the advantages of using translators and interpreters who conform and adhere to ATA standards. In that regard, and to start off, I should like to arrange for an informal by-invitation-only discussion forum (perhaps on Facebook or LinkedIn) to bring individual members together and to facilitate the sharing of ideas and viewpoints. (More about that later.)

In addition to these goals, one of my formal duties is to find speakers for the next Convention. I’d be very interested in suggestions. Our deadline for nominating such speakers is in February, so please submit proposals by January.

Anyway, for now, again, thanks so much for electing me – I hope I’ll be able to make a difference, bring us closer together and even grow our numbers.
